Being the oldest of six kids you see how parents are with siblings. I am a lot older than my siblings and there are time you think you are being picked on are things are unfair, (spoiled much?) and there are times where you say, "I'm never going to do that when I have kids". Parents do what they know how to do, meaning usually how they were raised with modifications.
My dad is such a hard worker, nothing stops him and he will find a solution till what ever he is doing is fixed. He grew up on a farm, went to college in the city, married a city girl, had a profession, but still wanted the farm life. 4 or 5 kids later enter the mini/hobby farm. My dad got horses and steers. He loved it, and watching him try to fix things at first, he was at a loss, but never gave up, He can fix anything in the house or outside, but I did talk him into a new vacuum since nothing he was doing was going to fix the 15 year old machine. Now when I need anything fixed he is the first person I call, even if the answer is duct tape.
My mom loved to cook and bake, I did not inherit that trait. I hate to cook, just thinking about what to make for dinner every night gives me a headache. She cooked great meals for all of us and made wonderful birthday cakes. Growing up I was a pretty gullible child, and still am I guess, she was making a beautiful cake an lots of cupcakes, it was close to my birthday, and I asked what they were all for, she told me for church. I accepted that answer, but she was getting ready for my surprise birthday party the next day. I had 25 friends at my house, and not a peep was made to me about the party. That was success. I try and throw a surprise party for one of my kids with 6 friends, and it gets blown. Kids today.....
It's amazing how much you take from your parents with just learned traits, and habits. Early to bed, early to rise. I didn't get that from my mom. I am so thankful for my parents and all they have done for me and taught me, and the example they are.
